Happy 26th Birthday!
I don't have a cool picture to post, but I'm thinking about you and hope you had a great birthday!
With love,
Heide

Finally, and update!
I kept waiting until I had pictures of Chapel Hill to post, but since that is not happening I decided to just write a quick entry.
Dallas and I are settled here in Chapel Hill, NC and have been here for about 2 months. I can't believe how fast time moves. Dallas is enjoying school for the most part- and so far he doesn't seem too much busier than normal (except he has a few more late nights).
I was really lucky and I found a job after one week! I was hired through UNC's temp service to work in the Scholarship and Student Aid Office and then a permanent position opened up there and they hired me for that! So now hopefully Dallas can qualify for in-state tuition because his spouse is a university employee. The job is definitely "low-stress" which is what I wanted- but I spend a lot of time doing mundane tasks like filing and alphabitizing etc.... still I will make as much as I did teaching- so no more complaining!
We live in the married student housing- with about 30 other LDS couples- I feel super fortunate because I was so worried about having friends here. I already feel like I have made some good friends and that has made the transition much easier.
Okay- I will hopefully write more later (I always say that!)and post some pics. It looks as though I am the last roommate without a blog- maybe someday when I have baby pictures to post I wil start one!
I hope everyone is enjoying fall- we are waiting for the "mild" temps here.

Waffles and Macaroni Grill
This time of year always makes me a little nostalgic (and maybe homesick) for our waffle parties and our trips to Macaroni Grill. I hope you all enjoyed your conference weekend. I am so grateful for your friendship and I'm glad that we've stayed connected (even if I'm not the best at it!).
Things in Danville are going well although life has been very, very busy. We moved again! We're now renting a house and we love having more space. Ethan spends every waking hour crawling around and exploring his new territory. We've done and are still doing some home improvements such as finishing a second bathroom, painting the whole house and fixing up the yard. The house is looking much better, but I can't wait to be done with it so I can be a full-time mom again.
I've also been busy with my new calling as young women's president. We have a great group of girls although our numbers are few. And to be honest the calling makes me feel old, but I love the girls and the fun we have together.
Steve is still enjoying work and is thrilled with the fact that our move has shortened his commute from ten minutes to five...Ahh the simple joys!
I miss you and hope you're doing well. Remember, someone in Danville loves you!

Hey Roomies! We need to hear updates from everyone! I'm putting out a request. I'm sure you're all sick of hearing about me and my boys, so someone else should update us.

The Mommy Update
Hi friends,
Thanks for your emails and blog comments. I really appreciate your support and love. I am doing well and enjoying being a mom. Sometimes its hard to believe its real. In some ways, its seems like we have always had Sage. She is a very good baby. She's already on her own little schedule and typically eats about every 3 hours during the night and morning. During the afternoon, she takes a couple even longer naps. She is eating well too. However, it will be nice when my body can figure out exactly how much milk she needs. The poor child can barely keep up when we start nursing! We typically get up a couple of times at night and then I just sleep in the morning when she does. So the day typically doesn't get started until about noon. But we both need to sleep, right? A friends of mine said "Take care of yourself for 6 weeks and you'll feel it at 6 months."
I am feeling pretty good overall. Just taking some Motrin. It sounds like the tailbone is a slow heal, but I guess it just kind of heals by itself. My stitches and tear are doing better as well.
I really do enjoy being a mom and feel a lot of peace and joy and that we are starting a new phase in life. It has been really great to have Eric here with me for the first two weeks. I have had a few post-partum, weepy moments where I cry for no reason at all, but he just listens and lets me get it all out. I've also started to relax a little bit and not run to the crib even time she hiccups (for some reason, you feel like if you're not with them every second, they'll stop breathing :).
Anyway, Eric is with me the rest of this week, and then I'll have a week on my own, and then my mom and family will come out. Hopefully by then, we might venture out of the house a little!
I love you guys and hope each of you are doing well. I can't wait until we can have a reunion sometime.

Our Summer
Since this is our last summer in Utah, Dallas and I made a list of things we wanted to do before we moved. Some of the items on the list were very small like 'Go to Jamba Juice.' Others were a little more time consuming like 'Hike Mt. Timpanogos.' I think by the time we move we'll have been able to do almost everything on the list. Unfortunately, Dallas' backpacking trip to the Uinta Mts. got canceled. (I am okay with that!). Here is just a quick summary of the things we've done- with a couple pictures attached of some of them.
1. Visit Temple Square and Salt Lake Temple- strange to think that I got married there and had never done a session there- I really enjoyed going and walking through the grounds.
2. Watch the Joseph Smith movie at the Joseph Smith Building- excellent film.
3. Go to IKEA- the store opened in Draper at the end of May- I really enjoyed the trip and found lots of cool things to decorate my house (as we try t sell it) and future things for my apartment in NC.
4. Camping/hiking Mt. Timp. I know Megs has done this and probably more of you- but that is quite the hike- especially if you take a wrong turn like we did! I had never heard of the Glacier that you slide down but it was lots of fun.
5. Visit Zion's Nat'l Park. Luckily my mom had a family reunion there so we were able to do both- we did a hike through Orderville Canyon (similar to the Narrows) and saw some very beautiful slot canyons.
6. Go to Bear Lake- lots of waterskiing..... the waterskiing part is mostly Dallas' doing... I still get butterflies in my stomach every time it is my turn! I will spare you and not post pics of that!
I hope everyone is having a great summer. Miss you all!

Fishing trip
For Ethan's 5 month birthday we spent the afternoon at Kennekuk County Park. We enjoyed a picnic, chasing the geese and goslings, and a competitive game of Bocceball, but the highlight of the afternoon was fishing;it was a first for me and Ethan.
Steve thought we could catch fish with artificial bait he had successfully used in the past (like in 6th grade)... Steve failed to inform me that the bait was 14 years old! Several fish curiously swam up to it, only to swim the other direction after smelling it.
Nonetheless, I was proud of myself for baiting the hook, casting the rod, and reeling in lots of algae! Next time Steve said we will use some real lures; hopefully, we'll have better luck!

NC Trip
It has been so long since I've posted anything that I forgot how!
Nothing really exciting to pass on other than the fact that my last day of school is Wednesday! I can't tell you how excited and ready I am to be done. This last semester has been a struggle- so I can't say that I will miss teaching. Now I turn my attention to getting our house ready for selling. This is going to be a chore- even though I love our home and it is very beautiful, there are plenty of little odd jobs to work on. Currently we are working on landscaping- planting flowers and shrubs, etc.... I'll post pictures when it looks beautiful.
A couple of weeks ago Dallas and I went to NC to make a quick trip to take care of odds and ends before we move out there. It was a fun trip- very hot. I am not sure we are ready for heat and humidity! We took a tour of our future home at the family housing complex on campus. I think I'll be able to find a place for all of our stuff! I will attach a few pictures that we took.
Other than that- nothing else to report. I hope everyone is doing well- I love hearing updates.

Slackers!
Ok girls,
I know that we might not lead the most exciting lives, but there has to be something going on with us--it's been almost a month since anyone posted something. Hailey and I have a little bit of an excuse in that we have our own blogs that keep you somewhat updated, but Heide, Lauren and Sarah--get on the ball.
Lauren and I went to a shower for Sarah last night. I had to leave early, so I didn't get to see any of the presents, but I am sure that Sage is going to be well dressed and taken care of! Sarah looked great, as always. We are hoping to get together one last time before Sarah leaves.
Anyway, I hope all is well with everyone else! Keep checking our blog for future excitement...

Baby Pictures
Before you get the wrong idea, this blog is for others, not me. I doubt that you guys really care about all my family memebers so probably don't look at many of the links from my page, but my cousin had links to a really cool sight.
If you go to the one that is Jeremy&Britnie, etc, and go to last week, he has a link to a guy that does photography. There are some suggestions about how to take cooler pitures of children. Sarah, I thought you might find this especially interesting as you mentioned you might want to do some more pictures of children. Anyway, I don't know whether you might do anything about it or not, but I thought you would all like to know about it.

Still mistaken for a high schooler
Well I really don't have anything excitng to post so I thought I would share a somewhat humorous story.
So last Friday Dallas and I chaperoned "MORP" at my high school. It is a pretty easy job and somewhat fun to see my students in a different light. Anyway, Dallas had taken a quick break (to check the NCAA tourney scores) and so I was just walking around making sure all the dancing was appropriate. A slow song begins (You Raise Me Up- no less) and all the couples begin to dance. I feel a tap on my shoulder and I assume it is Dallas joking with me to try and get me to dance. Nope- instead it is a former student who looks at me and says "Wanna Dance?" Taken aback, I assumed he mistook me for someone else.... I told him I was a teacher (in case he forgot who I was). He nodded and again asked me to dance. I said "Oh no.... I am a teacher. That is not allowed." I asked him where his date was and he pointed and told me that he left her to come and ask me to dance. I had to tell him no again. He finally got the hint and pretended like I was stabbing him in the heart and walked away. It was pretty funny. I guess I must still look or act like a high schooler!
Hope all is well.

Macaroni Grill
So we had our tri-annual birthday meal at Macaroni Grill last Friday. It was sad to just have the three of us (Lauren, Sarah and me), but enjoyable none-the-less. We shared in the traditional water with lemon, yummy bread, usual meals (Sarah's was cheese-free due to differed pregnency taste buds), and of course the wonderful chocolate cake! It was all fabulous, per usual.
Afterward, since our husbands were all otherwise occupied, we went back to my house to chat for a while. We shared baby stories, told about our plans for the future, and reminised about stories from the past. It was all great and we all looked forward to a time when we can all be back together again.
Hailey, we thank you again for keeping us all so wonderfully updated on the happenings of your two adorable boys and the rest of your family.
Heide, we understand life must be pretty crazy as you try to get re-settled. Hope everything is going well for you and your little family.

Okay, I made a blog again. I think I'm going to do the emails and a blog. So those who like blogs better don't have to get the emails anymore. It's http://themcmillans.blogspot.com/. There's not much there now, I will probably just put the updates on there for now. Just FYI.

Quiz for Meg
Ok folks I don't know whether you actually go and look at my blog (and I don't care whether you do or not) but I wanted to let you know I made up a dumb quiz and put a link on it. Anyway, if you have a few seconds, you should take a look.
Hope all is well for everyone. I have Parent-Teacher Conferences this week and am totally not ready, so we'll see how I survive.

Surprise!
Who know I was pregnant! Just kidding- I wish I were.... but the picture is of my new little niece! My older brother Michael and his wife Lindsey welcomed their new daughter on Friday. She was 5 lb 13 oz- She was about 3.5 weeks earlier (technically premature) but everything seems to be all right. She is so tiny.... I can't believe it.
I figured if I can't share any exciting news myself along this line- I would share my brothers.
Here are a couple of pics.... If you all remember Michael the one with him is a "classic Michael"

Holidays with kids
My mom has always been really big on Christmas and birthdays. I understand now why. Holidays are fun with babies, but with kids, your own kids, they are awesome. I could spend all my money on toys and presents for Jackson. Being a mom just gets better and better. Jackson turned 3 yesterday and it was one of the best days ever. I love being a mom!!

On the Road...Again
As some of you know, Steve has been less than satisfied with his job here, (long commute, low morale, un-kept promises...) Well, he stumbled upon a great opportunity at another hospital and we're moving at the end of this month! It's all happened so fast, but we feel it's an opportunity, a blessing really that we can't pass up. So, as of Feb. 25th we'll make out home in Danville, IL (near Chicago) I think there's something magnetic about the mid-west!
Steve is intimidated by the responsibilities that come with the promotion, but I know he'll adjust well.
I am nervous about the change, but thrilled about being closer to my family. Chicago's a great city, you're all welcome to come and visit once we get settled, and Hailey, we'll have to meet in Appleton some time!

Our Baby Girl
Yes! It's a girl! Eric and I couldn't be more thrilled. We are so happy that she is healthy, too. I was so confident that it was a girl, that I already a dress before I found out. Now I don't have to take it back! My official due date is now 07/07/07--confirmed by my first ultrasound, and now my second (although there is a very little chance we will be born on that day). I am feeling pretty good; I can't quite stop taking my medication though. At any rate, we are so happy!
This picture was the one that supposedly indicated it was a girl. It was obvious to the ultrasound tech, but we actually guessed it was a boy by the photo (can you see why?).
Nice long spine.
Cute little froggy legs!

Motherhood
Okay, sorry I haven't written more but I think I have a pretty good excuse.
Ethan is already 5 weeks old and the time has absolutely flown by. It's been a whirlwind of breastfeeding, burping and diaper changing, but I can't explain the joy he brings into our life! He has grown and changed so much already and I just love him and his daddy more everyday!
To answer a few questions,
Labor: (first 12 hours pre-epidural) gradually progressed towards excruciating
(last 12 hours post-epidural) relaxing and exciting
Epidural: not as scary as I thought it would be (I never even saw the needle, and by that time i didn't care how big the needle was i just wanted the pain to stop!)
Giving birth: If it was terribly painful I really have forgotten. I remember slight pressure, but I just wanted Ethan to come out so I pushed hard and fast. It was over within 30 minutes.
Motherhood is wonderful which you will soon come to know if you don't already!

Just call us Tar Heels!
Hello everyone,
I am not so good at this blog stuff- but I will try and improve. We just don't really have too much exciting stuff to tell! But I guess the fact that we decided on a dental school is pretty exciting. After lots of thought and prayer, we have decided to go to the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. We never really expected to get in there in the first place so we hadn't really considered it too much. When we didn't get in to Nebraska (our 1st choice) and did get in to UNC, we felt pretty lucky. Both schools have very good reputations and are in cities that aren't too big. We've talked with about 4 LDS guys who are current dental students there and they only have good things to say about the place. We applied for family housing on campus and so now we just wait to here if we get to live there. I don't think it has really sunk in yet that I will be moving clear across the country in about 6 months, but I am excited. I am ready for change. Now if only I can get through this next semester of school!
Hope everyone is surviving this cold wave..... I think this is the coldest it has been in Utah since I've lived here!

The Dahlgren Family Christmas
We started out the season with the extended Dahlgren Family. Dave and Lacey, Troy and Ricqelle, Riley and Brynlee (the cute little kids) and his parents. It was a lot of fun to be with them all.
Then, we did Christmas Eve dinner with the Dahlgrens again. I tried my family's traditional star Christmas Jell-o, but it didn't work too well. It still tasted OK, though. I'll try and hope for a better result next year.
This was our meager Christmas tree (we only turned the lights on twice--the night we put it up and the next. The plug was clear back behind the tree, so it was a pain to get to. We tried wrapping Santa presents this year, but we still put out our stockings. As you can tell, our Christmas morning wasn't very early. We were both fighting colds and had taken Tylenol PM the night before, so we didn't get up until 9:00! Oh, life without kids!! :-) (Sorry about it being sideways.)
Pret got his much-desired Millenium Falcon, along with two other Star Wars LEGO ships. It took him about 4 hours total to get it all put together. Since then, he has even dreamed he was piloting the ship in battle. I think he enjoyed his present!

The Baby
Now Heide, I'm sure you are very busy with a new baby and having your inlaws at your house, but I'm dying to hear about how your little man is doing. We need to hear about the birth and all that stuff, but I want to know about him too. So when you get a minute I would love an update!
Love you all!

A "Meme"
I got this idea from my cousin, so here goes. The first part is just explaination...
A meme is a unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another. The word meme was coined by an evolutionary biologist in 1976. In blogland, a meme is an idea that is shared and passed from blog to blog, such as a question that is posted on one blog and then is somehow answered on other blogs. There are lists of meme's on the web that can be answered by anyone. Here are some websites, among many unlisted ones, that give examples of meme's: Meme's list, The Daily Meme, Friday's feast, The Thursday Threesome, and Unconcious Mutterings.
1. Flip to page 18, paragraph 4 - of the closest book to you, what does it say?
There was only one paragraph on pg. 18, so I went to pg. 19.... "Late in the afternoon of November 26, Carter made a small hole in the doorway. He lit a candle, and put it inside to test the air. Then he made the hole bigger so he could look inside. Carnarvon, who was standing beside him asked anxiously, 'What do you see?'" This is from Tutankhamun: The mystery of the boy king by Zahi Hawass.
2. If you stretch out your left arm as far as possible, what are you touching?
There isn't anything there as I am sitting at my desk at school (it is after school, as I have tried really hard to do school stuff on school time today...). There is a plastic bag filled with stuff for the "house" here and my computer bag sitting on the floor underneath my arm. And of course, my desk is covered with papers.
3. What's the last program you watched on tv?
Man vs. Wild, a show on Discovery about a ex-British special ops guy who gets dropped in the middle of nowhere and has five days to survive and meet up with civilization (a road, a boat, etc.) It is pretty cool!
4. Without looking, guess what time it is?
My guess is about 3:15. (It's 3:20).
5. Except your computer, what can you hear now?
The air cirulation system in the building and a few random voices from people in other rooms, the hall, or kids outside.
6. When was the last time you went outside and what did you do?
If that means stepping more than 2 steps out the door, than this morning for recess duty at 10:15.
7. What are you wearing?
My gray work pants, a pink polo, a scarf and my cream sweater jacket.
8. What did you dream about last night?
I don't usually remember my dreams, but I actually do remember last night's because it was so weird!! I dreamt I was back in high school and we were getting ready for a choir concert. It was also around Prom time, so people were asking people and I got asked by a really popular guy (I don't remember who it was) but I didn't really want to say yes to him because I was really hoping a couple other people might ask me (subconsciously, I wanted Pret to, but at the same time, I already knew he was my husband, or at least would be eventually, so I didn't want to go with anyone else...) I woke up before I decided. But for those of you who know who these people are, Kendall Jaussi asked Morgan Olsen and she said yes!! How ironic is that!
9. When was the last time you laughed?
I chuckled about an hour ago at a blog I was reading.
10. What are on the walls of the room you are in right now?
Way too many things to describe. Just try to remember what your kindergarten classroom looked like and let your imagination go wild (for those who haven't seen my classroom...)
11. Have you seen anything strange lately?
Not necessarily strange, but really cute. My students were supposed to be copying down sentences (yes, we do that in Kindergarten.) They were copying, "I like my bike," but instead of the word "bike," there was just a picture. They were supposed to draw the picture and then sound out and spell the word bike. One little girl was trying her best and got the first letter, but the rest is what made me laugh: BMW!
12. What do you think of this Meme?
It is a little long, but fun, too. Different than all the other "chain mail" things I used to get all the time. I always enjoyed, those, though.
13. What's the last film you saw?
That depends. If it is just movie, that would be Rocky IV with Pret yesterday. If it is movie in the theatre, that would be Work and the Glory III. I actually was not a big fan because I think it was the most anti-climactic movie I have ever seen!
14. If you became a multimillionaire, what would you do?
That is a tough question. First, I would pay off our car so we could be debt free. Next, I would buy my mother a Land Rover (or whatever car she would feel most "safe" in, my mother-in-law a Jeep, and any other siblings reliable cars that will hold all their children. Then I would put enough money in our account that we wouldn't have to worry about making all of our bills for the next two years while Pret is in school. Then I would buy a cool house that would last us for a few years. Then I would save enough that Pret and I could go on a mission later in life (about $50,000). Finally, I would pay off debts that our siblings and parents owe and put the rest into savings, with a special savings that can be spent on whatever we want/need whenever we want/need it. I would definitely keep working until we decided we are ready to have kids, then I would start a really awesome pre-school that would be open to anyone, regardless of ability to pay!
15. Tell us something that most people don't know about you?
I had a crush on one of my student's father. He was married and I was single, but I think it was mainly because he reminded me of my brother (not that I have a crush on my brother, but that it was something familiar....)
16. If you could change one thing in this world, without regarding politics or bad guilt - what would it be? That every parent had the opportunity to be involved with every child every day. I feel so sorry for some of my students who have to spend time with only one parent a day due to work schedules, family situations, or lack of concern/involvement. There is such a difference for those who are involved!
17. Do you like dancing? I love it! I used to make up dance routines of all kinds with all of my friends when I was younger. I still love to go to dances. Now, if I only had a husband who would dance with me--he still owes me our wedding dance!
18. George Bush? I try not to get too involved in politics, especially individuals. It is much safer in my families that way.
19. What do you want you children's names to be, boy or girl? I have always love the name Michael and it tends to run in the family. :-) For a girl, I love the name Meggie, but it is too close to my own name, so I figure I will go with Maggie, but no one seems to like Margaret....
20. Would you ever consider living abroad? I plan on it at some point, if for no other reason than to serve a mission. I have lived in Saudi Arabia and New Zealand, my husband in the Czech Republic; so we both have some international living experiences and look forward to it again.
Well, there's a little bit about me. Sorry you don't get both sides of the story...
